Due to the fact that my Microsoft Word isn't woking, I am forced to do my responses on here to further notice.
This book so far is about this old guy who has been working at this amusement park. he is this 83 year old man who is very quiet and is the type of guy who goes by the same routine every single day. They break down his last hour of his life until he dies. They talk about his every movement and what he is doing every 4 or 5 minutes. Since he is the maintenance guy of the park, which is the person who checks the breaking, electrical panels, and smoothness of the rides, that is what he had died from. When he had saw the roller coaster cart tilting over he had told his worker to get up their and release the emergency brake. But he realize that that wasn't it, he realized that it was the cable wire that was starting tothread due to the fact that it had be scrapping against the pulley that had been stuck by his key that he thought he lost. He then told the Dominguez not to release the brake or the cart would run right off the rail. Because the crowd was so loud Dominguez didnt hear him and had released the brake. That is when Eddie, the old maintenance guy, had told everybody to back away. When the little girl who he made a animal for was still standing there he tried to save her life from the falling cart that was about to come down on her. Him saving her lif has costed his. Then when he had saw this old guy who was blue, Eddie was trying to figure where he was. That is when the old guy had told him that he was in heaven. Eddie didn't believe him becasue of the fact that that was the place where he had grew up at, the amusement park. The old man explained to him that Heaven can be found in the most unlikely corners and that heaven itself has many steps. He also explained to Eddie that there was five people he must meet in heaven. That each of them were in his (Eddie's) life for a reason. He explained that heaven is where you see what your purpose of life was on earth. He also told Eddie that he was the first person Eddie met. He was telling Eddie how the other four people was watching him too and how he would meet them later.
When the blue man said "People think of heaven as a paradise garden, a place where they can float on clouds and laze in rivers and moutains. But scenery without solace is meaningless. This is the greastest gift god can give you: to understand what happened in your life. To have it explained. It is the peace you have been searching for." , I really felt that it had something to do with transendentalism. I say this because I feel like the blue man is looking at heaven in a different way that everybody thinks and wants it to be. Instead of looking at heaven as just this better place that has no meaning and as this place where its just looks nice, the blue man seems to think other wise. He looks at heaven as a reflection of your life, a relfection of why you did the things you did and a place for peace and finding youself rather than just some flancy place after death.
When they start the book with count down of a hour left of his life it shows how a new life doesnt always start from being young and then getting old. With this book it shows how Eddie was old and his new life and new beginning was him going to heaven. Like the book said "This is a story about a man named Eddie and it begins at the end, with Eddie dying in the sun. It might seem strange to start a story with an ending. But all endings are also beginnings. We just dont know it at the time.". This connects to transendentalism because starting with an ending and starting with a new beginning and aspect of life, heaven, is also looking at your past life in more depth and seeing it from "unlikely corners" and different perspectives.
