During the reading Eddie was talking to his army unit captain and the captain was explaining to Eddie about what had happened in the fire incident. The captain aid that after they had escaped those crazy guards they wanted to burn the place down, so what they did was burn a big barn down. While ti was on fire Eddie kept saying that he had saw a small child-like figure in the burning flames. Eddie said that he thought of his cousins by the pier when he saw the figure like shape because he had been so used to seeing grown men. So he kept resisting his friends from trying to stop him so he can save the child that he swore he kept seeing. So that is when he got shot by the captain not knowing that he did it. He then woke up after being dazed and traumatized for days. After the captain told Eddie that it was him that had shot him, they started fighting. after the fight the captain then said that he did it so he could save Eddie life. He was saying that Eddie was to strong and tough to hold back so he said he shot Eddie's leg so he can save his life. After the whole story and incident he then told Eddie why he was there and what he was doing there for Eddie's purpose. he was there so he can teach Eddie about sacrifice. he was talking about how life is a sacrifice and how when live a new day based on the yesterdays, and how life on earth is just the beginning. After he had old him this, Eddie had asked why the captain was here out of all places. And then the captain started to show Eddie how the earth and that particular area was before the war had happened. he was trying to show him how the grass was green and how beautiful nature was. Than that's when the captain had disappeared once Eddie had looked away.

The part where the captain says "dying? not the end of everything. we think it is. But what happens on earth is only the beginning." i feel that it connects to transcendentalism. I say that because he makes so that god is giving us this perception that after death that's it but really it isn't. There is a whole new life that awaits us but since we are on earth we don't realize nor experience it. Also when talks about Adam and how he thought that once he went to sleep that was the end of his life but really when he wakes up, he has a whole new world, with also his yesterday's to look back on. This is showing how Our perception of life is what it is until we go through lessons of what life is really about and what the real perception of life, death, and after life is really about.

One thing that gets me is why is everything connecting back to that pier? I feel like every act that Eddie does in the book so far it's either because he was thinking of the pier and what he use to do their or because he used to do it back in the pier. Like he was trying so hard to go to the barn and save the "child" just off the strength that it reminded him of his cousins that used to be on their with him. or like when he used juggling, also something that he learned on the pier, to get out and escape and kill the guards at the mine cave. Even though they didn't say it yet in the book, i feel that the pier is going to end up connecting back to all of this stuff that going on with Eddie in heaven. And lastly, I wonder if the last person he meets in heaven is the little girl that he thinks he saves? If it is do you think that she is going to tell him what had happened and if he had saved her or not? And if he did save her, how she ended up in heaven?
